RealCart 101 - Reading the template code

A document based on catalog.html has been color-coded to make the various elements of the templates a little easier to distinguish. To view the color-coded example template please click here.

All of the comments have been colored blue.
All of the javascript has been colored red.
All of the snippits have been colored green.

While this template may appear to be complicated or hard to read, you will be reading these like a pro after completing your basic RealCart education. Our next course, RealCart Templates 101 will go into greater depth about the templates and how they can be customized to match your existing site.

Finished Pages

Finished pages are deposited into your cart folder after they have been parsed or rebuilt. These are the pages that make up your on-line storefront. The cart folder is uploaded to your site when you publish your store. The URL to your new cart folder is your domain name followed by /cart, which creates a direct URL to your new on-line store http://www.YourDomain.com/cart. The pages in the cart folder should never be edited directly; instead, always edit the templates then rebuild your store pages.

Database

RealCart’s database stores all of your product and store data including settings, your contact info, your merchant account info (if using a payment gateway), as well as other data. The database does not get uploaded to your web site. All of the database activities take place on your personal computer and then later the static HTML pages are uploaded (published) to your site. This allows RealCart to run on virtually any web server with or without database support.
