RealCart 101 - The Common Folder

The common folder contains many things. It contains all of the snippits, pay.html templates and common templates like the wait.html and thanks.html. These pages are very plain and there is no need to duplicate them with all of your themes. You may make special versions of these files to replace the standard templates by simplying copying them into your current theme folder and then customizing the copy.

Customizing a Common Element

For best results, you should never actually modify anything in the common folder unless you want your change to be available to all of the stores you manage. Of course, if you only have one store and do not plan to have any more; you can go ahead and violate this guideline. If, on the other hand, you foresee a possibility that you may one day manage more than one store with RealCart, you will want to customize items in the common folder by making a copy of the item and placing it in your current theme folder.

You may open the Common Folder in the same manner as you opened your current theme folder above. Press the View Cart button, but instead of clicking on the Template Theme, link click on the Common folder link instead. This will open the Common Folder on your PC. To copy one of the files in the Common Folder to your Current Theme Folder, just locate the file you want to copy and right-click it. Click Copy... on the pop up menu that appears. Now click your Current Theme Folder window (so that it is the active window) and right-click any blank area within this folder window and click Paste... on the pop-up menu.

Now you are free to modify the common element without risking damage to the original. If you decide that you do not like your customizations and want to revert back to the original file, you may either delete the file from your current theme folder or copy the original file back into your current theme folder so you can try again. ANYONE can customize RealCart without any prior programming experience, if you will simply make frequent backups and not be afraid to experiment.
