RealCart 101 - How templates work

Two buttons you will come to love during your customization of RealCart are the “rebuild page button” and the “rebuild all pages button.” (See Fig. 1.)

Fig. 1. The Rebuild Page and Rebuild All Pages buttons.

You will come to rely on these buttons, to see your changes each time you make an update to your templates. To rebuild a page, simply click the rebuild page button. Make a change to the template? Click the rebuild page button again. Remember to make frequent backups of your templates so if you accidentally “break” a template, you can revert back to an earlier working copy. Instructions on proper backup are available in the RealCart user manual.

Each time one of these buttons is pressed, the RealCart parser merges your product and store info stored in the database with the templates. This process allows RealCart to be customized in every way possible. Plain HTML, Square Tags and snippits will make your dreams a reality.

A Place for Everything

RealCart Templates are stored in the Template Folder. This folder contains many other sub folders, each of which (except for one) is a Theme. Upon closer examination, you will probably notice that the Common Folder houses different contents than the other folders; it contains all of the “common elements” that are the same for all Themes. Any time RealCart looks for a template or snippit that does not exist in the current theme folder, it will look in the common folder. If RealCart doesn’t find what it is after in the common folder, it will produce a “parsing error.”
